No training

So sez Scary Trainer. He said that I am off his schedule for the week. The WEEK!

He said there has been something going around for the last 2-3 weeks and people are being felled by the dozens. I guess I am lucky that I held out for this long. Although, in my mind that logic just doesn't make much sense. I mean, if I held out and didn't get it, then I'd be ahead. But to hold and and finally get it, well... that was just prolonging the inevitable.

I am taking advils and drinking water and hot tea. All day long.
One of my people who had it said that the key to recovery is lots of fluids. So that is what I am doing.

No chest congestion yet.
Thank goodness.

Good god... I am SICK!

I am sick.

Sick sick sick!

I think I have the flu.
I got up this morning and my head aches, my body aches, I am cold, and my skin is tender to the touch.

Strangely, I am not congested in my head or my chest. Thank goodness. Last thing I need is to break a rib expelling a lung.

So, of course I am not working out this morning.
And tonight with Scary Trainer is questionable.

I sent a note to work telling them that I am sick sick sick.

My boss was very deadpan which means he knows that I am sick sick sick.
On Friday, I worked from home, told him I wasn't feeling so good and he gave me shit. HAH. I guess this shows him, doesn't it?

I'll see how it works out. I tried to work a little bit but by mid-day, I was so out of it and unproductive that I was going backwards.

I am going to bed now.

Oh, and another thing...

Do you THINK that I got a run in today??? HAH!

Of course not.

Week 13 Training Recap

Well, this was a total fiasco. My two most important workout days got wiped off the boards because I was too damn busy with other stuff. This is why I HATE being social. It totally messes up your training schedule and you can't get it back!
Monday: Run 45 minutes easy. Scary Trainer in the evening. Ran for 50 minutes. Good training session in the evening. Another good record breaking week. One more week of strength building and I get a new set of routines.
Tuesday: Bike 50 minutes. Biked for only 35 minutes. I have to start getting up earlier.
Wednesday: Run 50 minutes with intervals.Done.
Thursday: Run 45 minutes easy. Scary Trainer in the evening. I did not feel like running this morning. I was so tired. Could not figure it out. Managed 1.1 miles and then just stopped. Had Scary Trainer session in the evening.
Friday: Bike 60 minutes. Done. About 16 miles. Yahoo.
Saturday: Run 1:30 minutes with intervals.TOO Busy! I had a massage in the morning. Then shopping for two hours for a brunch tomorrow. Then Chinese Class. Then back home to cook dinner and eat. Then total exhaustion. My throat is scratchy. I hope it's only allergies.
Sunday: Bike 1:30 minutes. Nothing. We had the Crewed Run in the morning, then back to the house to get ready for the brunch, then the brunch, then everyone leaves. And in all that time, we have no electricity. I am freezing. And I still have my scratchy throat. I hope I am not coming down with anything!!

Total Running Miles: 8.35 miles (record: 26.9 miles)
Total Biking Miles: 24.5 (record: 67.8)
Total Swimming Yards: 0 yards (record: 3300)
Total Strength Training Days: 2 times
Total Workout Hours: 3:26:22 plus 2:30 strength training (record was 11:00:19)
Hours training last week was an all time low. Ugh. Next week looks like this but it does not bode well that I still have a scratchy throat.
Monday: Run 45 minutes easy. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Tuesday: Bike 50 minutes
Wednesday: Run 50 minutes with intervals.
Thursday: Run 45 minutes easy. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Friday: Bike 60 minutes.
Saturday: Run 1:30 minutes with intervals.
Sunday: Bike 1:30 minutes.

WHAT is there to say?

Other than what a utter fiasco.

This morning was the Crewed Run. We get out of bed and realize that the electricity is out. OUT. Since about 1am when the alarm system went off to signify that there is "trouble" on the system. Meaning that the electricty is out.

We had received a note from NSTAR (the electric company) saying that the power would be out sometime between 1am and 1pm Sunday. Okay.... So, it's about 6:30 am... where is the electricity....

Should have known something was up.

Joseph goes ahead and runs to the Newton Town Hall where we all meet. I follow shortly thereafter. We do the run. I crew until I hit mile 12, and then I go home.

Still no electricity. I start cooking and putting food togehter. It is COLD in the house. My handy dandy weather station says it's about 55 degrees inside the house. It's WARMER OUTSIDE THAN IT IS INSIDE!!! ARG!!!

And thank goodness we have a gas stove. And the handy dandy long handled fire starter. And thank goodness we are going to cook outside!

People started arriving and they all noticed the cold weather. I was freezing. It was like one of those frat parties during the winter where everyone hangs out around a fire in a trash barrel with beer and burgers. This time, it was in the dining instead of the trash can fire!

I felt bad not being able to offer up any showers like we had promised. In the end, I think it turned out okay. People left and the around 2:30 we called the electric company. They said it would be on in about 5 minutes! ARG!!! 5 minutes later, and nothing.

All I knew is that I had to get something warm in me so we went next door to the StarBucks which was NICE AND TOASTY WARM. They were the only business in the neighborhood that was open. I ended up with a TAZO ZEN Tea. OMG! If you have never had this, do not pass go... get thee to a Starbucks PDQ and try one! It's just tea but it's very very good.

Anyway, that warmed me up a little. The electricity came on about 4pm. FOUR PEE EMM!!! A full 3 hours LATER than when it was supposed to come on. WHO SHUTS THE DAMN ELECTRICITY OFF OF A WHOLE CITY NEIGHBORHOOD FOR 15 HOURS IN THE WINTER???

Anyway, I was dying! DYING!!! Not to mention that I was shivering all over the place, could NOT get warm, and my throat is still SCRATCHY!!!

ARG! WHERE did the time go???

Okay. No time today. No time for ANYTHING.

Okay. Maybe I exaggerate a little bit.

I had a 2 hour massage this morning at 9am.
Right after that, I went to the store and picked up a few things for tomorrow's brunch at our house after the Crude Run. Actually, it's the Crewed Run and I am one of the Crew supporting runners from Hopkinton to Mile 19 or 20 of the marathon course. Of course, I am going to leave early to get the food ready for the brunch.

Anyway, shopping can take an incredibly long time. Especially if the aisles are clogged with your population of stupid people who do not seem to get out on any other day than Saturday when I am in a hurry.

Then, back home and we had to go to Chinese class. Yes. CHINESE CLASS. Whatever. It's along story. But we are taking Chinese classes.

Then back home for dinner.

I am totally exhausted. Do you THINK that I could get in my long run today?
Of course not.

And my throat is still scratchy.
If I get sick I am gonna be PISSED!

Visitor from NYC

Last night we went to dinner with NC from NYC. He is my Hunny Bunny's coach when he is being coached. I think they have some sort of retainer relationship. I thought only lawyers had retainers. Who knew?

Anyway, we went to Cottonwood Cafe. I haven't been there in a while. NC and Joseph got the enchilada verde which is what I usually get. I ended up wit the chicken diablo. My dinner was twice the size of theirs! Sheesh.

Anyway, I did manage to get in a run yesterday morning. I plan on trying to get a run in later today. We'll see what happens.

My throat has been a bit dry and scratchy. What is that all about? I hope it's only allergies. But this morning, the Allergy report was low and in the green. Sigh...

Into the Wild

I watched the movie. I haven't read the book. Didn't know there was a book. Anyway, the movie was very good.

Never thought a movie with so little dialogue and action "mayhem" would be so engaging.

But it was. It engaged my dreams and my spirit. My wandering, pioneering spirit that lays hidden deep inside.

So many of us have the pioneering spirit. Not as many dream of wilderness as a destination. And fewer still act on our desires, living as Alexander Supertramp did. In some ways, he lived more in those two years than many of us live in a life time. And in ways that many of us can't begin to imagine. With all his senses and his entire being.

He became enlightened and reached nirvana.
Perfected in spirit.

I suppose it had to end the way it did.

Another milestone

Okay. So I got in the scale this morning and I have lost another whole pound since yesterday! Since I started this thing in January, I am down about 12 pounds.

I am psyched!!!
This means I have 4.8 pounds to reach my goal.
I think my concerted effort to get some sort of daily cardiovascular workout is helping things move along! And my body fat is also down.
I haven't been this weight in more than 3 years. That was so long ago that I cannot remember the last time I weighed this!!
And it's only the end of March!

I asked Scary Trainer the other day what we have to go to get into the getting buff stage. He said not until we have dropped the body fat. Ugh. Okie.

Today, my whole body HURTS from the workout on Monday.

Thank goodness I do not have to workout tonight!

100 Things I Hate #1: People with Backpacks

I have never thought about creating a Things I Hate list but riding to work on the subway this morning just made me think of it.

To all backpack carriers in crowded places, especially wall to wall PACKED subway riders: when you get on the train, take off your backpack and place it on the floor between ypur feet!

If you don't, it makes you twice the torso size. And since it sticks out the person behind you has to bend over from the pressure and space displacement!

And yes, this is about you! Skinny girl with the frizzy hair, blue jeans and ugly purple backpack! Where were you raised?? In a CAMEL HERD???? GAH!!!!!!!

And yes, that was ME leaning into you so I could stand up straight and not fall over onto the person in front of me when the train stopped and started and shook from side to side.

One thing worse than a rude person is a stupid rude person because they can't ever correct their rudeness!!!

100 Favorite Things #11: Tulips

I love tulips.
Big ones.
Little ones.
White ones.
Multi-colored ones.
Doesn't matter if they're from Holland or France.

I love them all!!!

If I had a garden, I'd have lots and lots of tulips in it.
I'd probably kill them all though.

I can't want for summer.
Maybe it will warm up by then.

100 Favorite Things #10: Method

Ok. This is hands down the best stuff in the world. Not just the hand soap, which is out of this world. But the cleaning products are amazing.

We are in the process of moving furniture into newly done rooms and all the furniture is dusty and grimy from YEARS of dirt and now, construction dust (we got some pieces at an estate sale). I tried Old English. I tried Pledge. And they all left behind this "grimey" feeling and I had to rub and rub and rub to the edge of pain to get the polish off. And it didn't look much better than when I started. I swear, they do it on purpose. Just move the damn dirt around so you use more product,

Anyway I remembered I had ordered this stuff a month ago. And I tried it. ACK!!! It is AWESOME!!! No residue. No coating left behind to make things grimier in the end than it was before. And it's not that expensive! Not to mention it has a nice fresh clean scent.

I am a convert. I am going to throw out the old polishes that have FAILED me. And I will instruct Jonathan the Houseboy to use only Method cleaning products from now on.

And no. They are not paying me to say all this. Jeez.

Happy Bunny Day

I want to wish everyone a very Happy Easter.

Peace on earth and goodwill to ALL people all over the world.
May we all remember the sacrifices He made on our behalf.
And may we all live graciously and gratefully as a result.

Week 12 Training Recap

Last week was tough after having to prepare and go through a colonoscopy. I do not know how people starve themselves on a regular basis and call it a diet. I would kill myself rather than go through that misery. But the week ended better than it started and I am coming back to my usual form. Especially need to rev up if I don't want to decrease by another 100 calories.

The good news is that after gaining my 5 pounds of water after the colonoscopy, I ended up at my lowest low ever. And my lowest high ever this morning, after yesterday's cheat day.

Oh, and the cheat day is losing its luster. I have stopped focusing on it so much.
Monday: Run 50 minutes. NO Scary Trainer in the evening. Done. 50 minutes! Yeah!
Tuesday: REST DAY. Have to in for my colonoscopy in the morning. Can't imagine that I will want to work out after a full day of starvation.Abd boy did it just suck. HUNGER....
Wednesday: Bike 50 minutes.Ugh. No way. Nothing. My body is so messed up!
Thursday: Bike 50 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening. Nothing in the morning. Still not up to my old energetic self. STINKS! I did have Scary Trainer in the evening. I went up in weights on everything. I did great. I think I will be back to my old self tomorrow.
Friday: Bike 50 minutes. Biked 1 hour. I am sick of this 50 minutes crap! 15.4 miles total. Happiness!
Saturday: Run 1:25 minutes with intervals - 12x20seconds at a 6:30 pace with 50 second rest. Done. It was very very good.
Sunday: Bike 1:25 minutes. Done. 22.8 miles. Also very very good.

Total Running Miles: 11.8 miles (record: 26.9 miles)
Total Biking Miles: 38.2 (record: 67.8)
Total Swimming Yards: 0 yards (record: 3300)
Total Strength Training Days: 1 time
Total Workout Hours: 4:40:22 plus 1:15 strength training (record was 11:00:19)
Next week should be better since I am BACK! HAH!!! Not sure what it will look like in the end but this is what I have planned.
Monday: Run 45 minutes easy. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Tuesday: Bike 50 minutes
Wednesday: Run 50 minutes with intervals.
Thursday: Run 45 minutes easy. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Friday: Bike 60 minutes.
Saturday: Run 1:30 minutes with intervals.
Sunday: Bike 1:30 minutes.

I am wasting away!

I don't know what that one day of starvation and my body's subsequent response to it was, BUT, I got on the scale this morning and I dropped almost 2 pounds.

This is the LIGHTEST I've been in OVER three years.

Good gracious!
Well, I'm motivated. That's for sure.
Cannot wait to tell Scary Trainer about this.
Maybe he will give me another week's reprieve on that 100-calorie decrease.

I also rode my bike for 1 hour. Got sick of the 50 minute thing and I also found new wind after weighing myself. So, 15.4 miles. Not bad.

And it didn't kill me. Imagine.

Back to normal! YAHOO!

So, I had Scary Trainer tonight.

I think I am back to normal. YAHOO!!!

I increased in all the weights. Again!
Tomorrow, I am back hot and heavy on the cardio.
I asked Scary Trainer for a one week repreve on that 100 daily caloric decrease. I told him my plan of ramping up cardio back to where I was before I got lazy and he agreed to wait one week to see what happened.
He was also happy that the 5 pound gain disappeared.
AND he was happy that I didn't lose strength.

Anyway, I told him that I couldn't believe how messed up my body was from that one day of starving! And people do this all the time and call it "dieting!" He added that they do that and then they come in and try to work out, and they pick something brain dead like the eliptical and think they are doing good for their health. He said there are a lot of people who are that messed up in their bodies from living and unhealthy lifestyle and trying to do crash dieting. It takes hard work. So, he was happy that I was looking forward to going right back to my regularly scheduled program.

Oh, and while he was happy, I gave him a heads up on my May and June schedules.
He wasn't too happy afterwards.

Well, you can't have everything.

Labels: ,

Okay. So I weighed myself this morning and I am back down by five pounds and another .6. THANK GOODNESS!!! I do recall that yesterday, I spend half the day in the bathroom, getting rid of all the water in my body.

I didn't do any cardio this morning because my system is still so messed up. But I have Scary Trainer tonight.

We will see how it goes...

Gotta lose this weight

I have got to get this weight down. Last week, I mentioned to Scary Trainer that I haven't been able to get off my current weight. He said that he was afraid that would happen and mentioned that I might need to drop my daily intake by 100 calories.

I only get 1700.
I am not sure I can just have 1600.
I might DIE!!!

So, I have to get back into my heavy cardio routine if I want to drop weight and avoid decreasing my food intake. And I guess picking at 3 M&M's a day needs to stop too. DANG.

It's always something, isn't it??

I feel like crap.

Did I work out this morning?
Of course not.

I am turning into a damn slug.
Not to mention my weight is up from yesterday.
How much?
5 pounds.
How much???

My body is soooo messed up!
So. Messed. Up.

After Monday's starvation, I had only lost 1 pound on Tuesday morning.
Which tells you that I do not store a lot of crap in my system. Literally. Sorry.

After a day of keeping in line with my 1700 caloric limit after the procedure, I wake up this morning to find out that I have GAINED. FIVE. POUNDS!

On what???
I gained it on AIR!
That's what!!!

And did I work out this morning??
Of course not.
Cannot believe you would wonder about that.

I am thinking that maybe I like demerol better than morphine. I mean, I love morphine. Morphine and I met when I fell off the horse about 6 years ago (I remember the pain as clear as day, as if it happened yesterday!) and we have been in love ever since.

So, this morning I went in for my colonoscopy. It's good to get it over and done with in the morning. They are on time! Anyway, my Hunny Bunny took the day off to be with me. He brought a good book with him... the whole thing took about 3-4 hours, I think.

The procedure went without a hitch.
Except that I woke up in the middle of the procedure. That happened last time, too. This time, I looked at the monitor just when the doctor said, "there's a polyp." I don't know if I said anything but, I remember trying to tell them that I was awake. And in my groggy state, I think I might have said, "polyp? find the polyp." or something like that.

But the last thing I remember is that they took this loopy thing and they cut off the polyp. Not sure how they got it out but I was told afterwards that they would let me know in about 14 days if the polyp is benign or cancerous, etc. I am sure that they would be contacting me much earlier if I had something to worry about. This is the first time they found a polyp. Only one. But the nurse said, "Well, we now know that you are the kind who grows polyps so it's good to know..."

Hmmm... good to know??? ARG!!! That is probably what killed my Daddy! A damn polyp that got out of control and went on a damn rampage inside of him!!! GAH!!!

I think they put me out right after I saw them cut away the polyp because the next thing I knew, I was coming out of my stupor in recovery... and let me tell you - that IV they put inside you? Huh. Getting it in is NOTHING. PULLING IT OUT??? &^%$#!!! It is the most painful thing I've gone through!!!

They gave me cranberry juice. And four small cookies. It was so delicious!!!

And I found out they gave me demerol. Happy juice. I was so happy. All day. Happy happy happy!!! And it wasn't just me being able to eat anything that I wanted to get my energy back. It was Demerol!!!

So in three years, when I have to do this again, I will remember that I will be meeting up with my new old love Demerol and I won't dread it so much.

Not to mention having the whole day off and having my Hunny Bunny around to take care of me. That was the best...

Okay. Let me just say that NOT EATING SUCKS!!!

I am preparing for my colonoscopy. I have had to get this every three years since I turned 40. Thanks to my Dad who died of colon cancer. Anyway... I hate getting it done. It's not only painful from starving but it's very invasive.

So, since 9am this morning, I have been on a clear liquid diet. Do you know how HARD that is for someone who only drinks water?? I have to gulp down Gatorade and Vitamin Water like there is no tomorrow. As it is, I have only managed to get in 1200 calories today. NOT HEALTHY!

And since 4pm, I've been drinking this Halflytely stuff that cleans out your system. 2 liters. TWO LITERS!! My stomach is the size of a BASKETBALL and totally DISTENDED!!! GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And my stomach is NOT HAPPY. I hear it gurgling and making it's unhappiness very loudly, perfectly clear! YES. I HEAR YOU! I KNOW YOU'RE NOT HAPPY! Well, NEITHER AM I!!!!

And I am very very hungry. I am so hungry that I have pain!! And no, it's not the clear-you-out liquid, either! It's HUNGER PAIN!!!

I can't wait for this to be over.
This is soooo gonna mess up my system.

Week 11 Training Recap

I was so tired last week. I need to get more sleep.
Monday: Bike 45 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening. Done done done. 11.5 miles in the morning. Scary Trainer at night. I love this strength building phase that we are on!
Tuesday: Bike 35 minutes. Try and go for a swim in the evening if the schedule holds up.Yup. 9 miles in the morning. Legs were tired.
Wednesday: Run 50 minutes - warm up, 12x20sec intervals at 6:30 pace with 50 second rest, cool down, steady state to finish up. Good god, I was tired. I think I am not recovered. I couldn't get my HR under control and everything from my shoulders up hurt. Even my ears hurt! I think it was due to not being relaxed from behing too tired. Anyway, managed to eek out 2 miles and only managed 8 reps at 25 seconds, instead of 20. Sucks.
Thursday: Bike 45 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening. Okay. So much for ambition. Needed to rest in the morning so that I could actually work out with Scary Trainer in the evening.
Friday: Bike 45 minutes. Okay. I took another stupid rest day. It had to go to the Rhode Island office in the morning and I HAD to leave early because of my massage. I can't just work for 4 hours, right? Something had to give. And guess what gave?? Right.
Saturday: Bike 1:20 minutes. YES! 21 miles. YAHOO!
Sunday: Run 1:20 with intervals - 12x20seconds at a 6:30 pace with 50 second rest. Done done done. Happy happy happy! 6.8 miles total.

Total Running Miles: 8.81 miles (record: 26.9 miles)
Total Biking Miles: 41.5 (record: 67.8)
Total Swimming Yards: 0 yards - Jeez. I gotta get going on this. (record: 3300)
Total Strength Training Days: 2 times
Total Workout Hours: 4:31:26 plus 2:30 strength training(record was 11:00:19)
Next week will be interesting. I have a colonoscopy on Tuesday. That means, I start a liquid diet on Monday after 9am. And I can't eat anything until I am done and recovered Tuesday afternoon when I get home. Ugh. This is going to be interesting. So the weekly looks like this. I know that it will change.
Monday: Run 50 minutes. NO Scary Trainer in the evening.
Tuesday: REST DAY. Have to in for my colonoscopy in the morning. Can't imagine that I will want to work out after a full day of starvation.
Wednesday: Bike 50 minutes.
Thursday: Bike 50 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Friday: Bike 50 minutes.
Saturday: Run 1:25 minutes with intervals - 12x20seconds at a 6:30 pace with 50 second rest.
Sunday: Bike 1:25 minutes.

Scary Trainer

So, I worked out with Scary Trainer last night. The good news is that, I went up in weight and down in reps.

I mentioned to him that I was sort of stuck on my current weight for about 3 days - not really going up and down as usual. And he comes out with "that'll happen. Next week we might have to go down in calories."

Huh? Down in calories????
"Yup. You might have to eat less to budge off the number. "
Eat less???
"I knew iit was going to happen, I was waiting for that."
HUH?? And you didn't feel you had to share that bit of news with me? That I will be eating less??? ARG!!!!!

So, he is going to give it until the END of next week instead of the beginning of the week to see what happens.

I am so annoyed. No one mentioned I was going to eat less! I honestly thought I would eat MORE! I mean with the muscle gain and all.

Watch me wither away.
One day he'll tell me all I can eat is bread and water.

Good news is that TOMORROW IS A CHEAT DAY!!!!!! YAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

Shoe Shopping Scramble

I have just come back from HELL.

I need shoes. Badly.
I need dress shoes. Pumps. Things to wear with dresses and skirts.
I need shoes to wear to a black tie function this weekend.

And I am a very busy person.
Busy busy busy.
Add that to the top of my hatred for shopping and there you have it.
The last minute Shoe Shopping Scramble.

So. How hard is to find shoes???
I typically would shop casually walking up and down Newbury Street on a nice summer day. Or at Copley Place. Mainly at Neiman Marcus, Cole Haan, Saks Fifth Avenue... yeah. You get the picture. Those places where they have those shopping helpers that know how to keep their distance and know just when to offer help, where the shoes are different and beautiful and the ambiance is calm, cool, and wonderful.

Anyway, I would typically stroll along, popping in and out of boutique stores that caught my eye. And if I happen to happen upon a pair of shoes that caught my fancy, I would buy it. This does not happen often. Maybe once a year. Maybe once every two years. Especially since my patience for the crowds on warm summer days is enough to make me turn into a gun-toting postal employee.

But today... I had to go on an ASSIGNMENT!!! And I couldn't get up to my usual haunts. So I went to DSW. As in the commercialised warehouse store of shoe consolidation. I have NEVER SEEN so many shoes in my life. And of so many varieties. Who KNEW that you could be in a place that sold 100 different kinds of black pumps, only to FAIL at finding what you need? What happened to the basic shoe - one for dress and one for fancy? Without the see-through wedge heal, the tiger print, the ankle wrap mary jane, the glitter sprinkled vamp, the pointy toed pumps that make your feet look twice as long as they are... what happened to the basic conservative patent leather with a medium heel? That you can actually WALK AROUND IN??? ARG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I exaggerate. I did find what I needed. A basic black pump by Liz Claiborne. Thank GOODNESS for Liz Claiborne! And another open toed one with a simple design with leather backing to wear to the black tie function on Saturday.

And I kid you not. The whole thing took more than an hour and a half!
Both pairs came in under $80. EIGHTY DOLLARS.
I don't remember when I last paid $80 for a pair, two pairs, of shoes!
I am definitely not one to buy cheap shoes. $80 would pay for the toe of one shoe alone in the places I typically shop.

All I know is these better not hurt my feet.

If they do, that is what I get for buying cheap shoes!!!

I need a break

So disappointing.

I had intervals scheduled this morning and I got to thinking that since I did 12x20 seconds relatively easily on Sunday, I would take it up a notch and do 12x25 seconds with 45 second rest.
I only managed 8 reps.

All I noticed is that my HR was jumping around and wouldn't stabilize.
My neck started hurting.
And then the back of my head.
And then my temples.
And then my ears.
I mean, EARS???

So, I figured out that I was tense.
And then I thought, I am tense because I am not rested enough.
Which means I haven't had enough recovery.
Which means that the workout I did this morning - 8x25 followed by 15 minute walk - was pretty damn good.
Im my humble opinion of course.

Anyway... nothing for me tonight.
I am going to make squash and zucchini cakes for dinner instead.

Baggy Butt Syndrome

This is what I have. Or so, according to someone I saw yesterday. I walked into their office and the first thing they said was, "you have baggy butt syndrome."

Basically my pants were hanging off me. And so the area around the seat is really loose. I guess it's a good thing. But I thought they would be fine when I put them on. Sure they were loose around the waist but they are loose knit pants for work and they are black, so I thought they would be fine.

Apparently not.

So, they are now in the dry cleaning pile and when I get them back, I will fold them away for safe keeping in my Fat Clothes pile. Hopefully in two years I can just pick up the pile and take it to the Salvation Army and never look back.

Random Thought: Cheat Day

NEVER EVER go to a stupid function where they serve CHICKEN on your cheat day!

I would never eat dried out function chicken on my own. Never.
Ugh. I might go through drive through and get a burger before hand.

So I started this exercise program and nutrition plan in January.
Since then I have lost 9 pounds.

I am at the my lowest weight in 3 years.
Since we moved into Appleton Street in the South End of Boston and started kitchen demo. And I started eating out. Almost every night.
I am simply amazed at the results of my efforts in the last 2 months.

EEEK! It's ONLY been two months!!! One more pound and I will reach the goal I was aim for in September! And that's still 7 months from now!

I am finding it easy to stick to my eating pattern knowing that I will get one day off a week when I can eat anything I want. And in some ways, I'd rather have all the other days be lo-carb days because, well... it's just easier! I don't have to think about what carb I will have that day! Of course, Scary Trainer told me that I should not even consider doing that because it won't be good for me or the program.

And because of cheat day, I know that I need to plan out what I will cheat with, really examine what it is that I am craving and wanting to eat.
Which means I have to really get in tune with my body. Amazing.

Also, one thing of note is that the amount of time that I am exercising has been cut in HALF. 50%! That is a lot of time when I used to exercise about 8-10 hours a week. Now? I am down to around 5 hours a week. Amazing.

We are in the strength building phase of the program. That means I have two new routines to alternate every single week. Last night was routine 2. I did 100-lb dead lifts, followed by a floor chest press, and incline rows, and then 1-armed planks (4x10seconds twice - why? Because once is never good enough. That's why.)

Scary Trainer told me yesterday that he was talking to another woman that just signed on and he was explaining to her everything and used me as an example. And she was like, "who is this?" And he described me (short, Asian woman - Hmph! SHORT??? At least he left out dumpy.) And she looked at him and said, "HER!? She's a bad ass.) LOL! Of course, she did point out that that I do yell a lot. Whatever.

So... I am happy happy happy with everything right now.

I just have to get in more swimming. And soon!

What do I look like?

Finance Central??

Two piece of wrongly directed mail in my box at work.
Both are invoices for payment.
No name. No nuthin'!

I hope they don't want to get paid.

Week 10 Training Recap

I am starting to get the knack of weight liftening integrating with the cardio workout. One thing I noticed lately is that I am spending 50% less time working out than when I just did cardio in the past. And, I am happy to say that I have lost about 8 pounds in the process. Amazing. The weight lifting really does work.
Monday: Bike 45 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening. I find that I can bike a long time in the morning and still do a decent weight workout that night.Biked 11 miles in 43 minutes. This is the last day of this grouping of workouts which was all about getting my HR up and burning a lot of fat. Wednesday, I get a new set of workouts.
Tuesday: Bike 30 minutes. After the night of lifting, the next morning, I am exhausted. This is a total recovery workout.Recovery ride - 7.6 miles in 30 minutes.
Wednesday: Bike 50 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening. Biked 12 miles in 50 minutes. I felt strong but my challenge on the mornings that I have Scary Trainer in the evening, is that I do not ride too hard and get totally wasted before my weight workout! I also hit another all time low on the weight! YAHOO!
Thursday: Bike 30 minutes. Sometimes, I need a rest!REST! I. DID. NOTHING!!! And I am damn happy about it too!
Friday: Run 50 minutes with intervals. The intervals are 12x15seconds at 6:27 pace with 55 second rest in between. Yup. Done. I actually took it up a notch and ended up with 6:21 pace. I found this okay. So if I can hold it for the for the whole workout during my next interval session, I will be running for 20 seconds with a 50 second rest.
Saturday: Bike 1:15 minutes. Done. 20.75 miles. Done done done!
Sunday: Run 1:15 with intervals - 12x15seconds at 6:27 pace with 55 second rest. Okay. Did these. I can't believe it. Instead of 15 seconds, I ran for 12 x 20 seconds with a 50 second rest. Now. If I can hold that around 2 hours and 50 minutes, I'd have a sub-3:00 marathon. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! Yah. Ahem.

Total Running Miles: 10.47 miles (record: 26.9 miles)
Total Biking Miles: 51.4 (record: 67.8)
Total Swimming Yards: 0 yards - Jeez. I gotta get going on this. (record: 3300)
Total Strength Training Days: 2 times
Total Workout Hours: 5:25:00 plus 2:30 strength training(record was 11:00:19)
Next week's goal is to keep plugging away and try to get in a bit more cardio workouts. Keep integrating and keep working the schedule. I am seeing Scary Trainer on Mondays and Thursdays instead of Mondays and Wednesdays. That extra day of rest may mean that I may be rested enough to go to the pool a couple times a week. We will see how this works out. In the meantimes, the goal is to maintain maintain maintain...
Monday: Bike 45 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Tuesday: Bike 35 minutes. Try and go for a swim in the evening if the schedule holds up.
Wednesday: Run 50 minutes - warm up, 12x20sec intervals at 6:30 pace with 50 second rest, cool down, steady state to finish up.
Thursday: Bike 45 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Saturday: Bike 1:20 minutes.
Sunday: Run 1:20 with intervals - 12x20seconds at a 6:30 pace with 50 second rest.

Random Thought: Nuts

I am addicted to Pistachios.
The ones with the shells.
I can go through a whole bag.
A five or ten pound bag.
In a day.

I should switch to the shelled pistachios.
They hold no interest for me.

New furniture!!

We finally received the new furniture that we ordered back at the end of December! December 27th, to be exact. Not that we are anal or anything. I like to consider myself to be meticulous, instead. Ahem.

And the furniture is BEE-YOU-TI-FULL!!! Yahoo!

We ordered two love seats and a wing chair. It fits perfectly and makes everything look cozy.

Now the trick is to make sure that Henry Cat does not use them as scratching posts.
If she does, she will be stuff and put next to the chairs as a reminder to all naughty furniture-scratching cats. Ahem.

Pictures of the new furniture can be found here.

Also, here are some pictures of the house during the current Punch List Phase. I am going to KILL MYSELF if they don't finish up before the Boston Marathon Weekend!!!! ARG!

Week 9 Training Recap

I am still trying to get a handle around the cardio schedule and integrating it with the lifting schedule. Even though I am only lifting twice a week, I find that I need more rest than usual. And twice a day workouts are non-existent unless it's biking in the morning and lifting in the evening. I haven't been to the pool in a while but we will start going again soon. So last week looked like this:
Monday: Bike 45 minutes. Lift (ST) in the evening. Biked 11 miles in 45 minutes. Had Scary Trainer after work. I am really tiredof this routine.
Tuesday: Bike 45 minutes. Ran .76 miles. Okay, I walked it. Whatever. I was just too tired. TOO. TIRED.
Wednesday: Bike 45 minutes. ST in the evening. Biked 12.85 miles in the morning. Scary Trainer at night. This is the last night of the two workouts. Next week, I get a new workout. YES!
Thursday: Bike 45 minutes. O.M.G. I had to take a rest day.
Friday: Run 30 minutes with intervals. Ran 3.32 miles with intervals at the beginning. I am now doing 12 reps of 15-second 6:27 mph runs with a 55 second rest inbetween. After that, I cool down and then start running easy for a while.
Saturday: Bike 1:20 minutes. I decided that 1:20 was too ambitious. So I ended up biking 17.7 miles in 1:10. I'll take it!
Sunday: Run 1:10 with intervals. Ran 5.61 miles with the same intervals as Friday.

Total Running Miles: 9.7 miles (record: 26.9 miles)
Total Biking Miles: 41.5 (record: 67.8)
Total Swimming Yards: 0 yards (record: 3300)
Total Strength Training Days: 2 times
Total Workout Hours: 4:52:12 plus 2:30 strength training(record was 11:00:19)
Next week, I will still try to get my arms around the cardio integration with strength. So far, this is what I have planned:
Monday: Bike 45 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening. I find that I can bike a long time in the morning and still do a decent weight workout that night.
Tuesday: Bike 30 minutes. After the night of lifting, the next morning, I am exhausted. This is a total recovery workout.
Wednesday: Bike 50 minutes. Scary Trainer in the evening.
Thursday: Bike 30 minutes. Sometimes, I need a rest!
Friday: Run 50 minutes with intervals. The intervals are 12x15seconds at 6:27 pace with 55 second rest in between.
Saturday: Bike 1:15 minutes.
Sunday: Run 1:15 with intervals - 12x15seconds at 6:27 pace with 55 second rest.
