Shoe Shopping Scramble

I have just come back from HELL.

I need shoes. Badly.
I need dress shoes. Pumps. Things to wear with dresses and skirts.
I need shoes to wear to a black tie function this weekend.
As in SATURDAY!
Yes.
THREE. DAYS. FROM. TODAY.

And I am a very busy person.
Busy busy busy.
Add that to the top of my hatred for shopping and there you have it.
The last minute Shoe Shopping Scramble.
GAH!!!!

GAH GAH GAH!!!!
ARG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So. How hard is to find shoes???
I typically would shop casually walking up and down Newbury Street on a nice summer day. Or at Copley Place. Mainly at Neiman Marcus, Cole Haan, Saks Fifth Avenue... yeah. You get the picture. Those places where they have those shopping helpers that know how to keep their distance and know just when to offer help, where the shoes are different and beautiful and the ambiance is calm, cool, and wonderful.

Anyway, I would typically stroll along, popping in and out of boutique stores that caught my eye. And if I happen to happen upon a pair of shoes that caught my fancy, I would buy it. This does not happen often. Maybe once a year. Maybe once every two years. Especially since my patience for the crowds on warm summer days is enough to make me turn into a gun-toting postal employee.

But today... I had to go on an ASSIGNMENT!!! And I couldn't get up to my usual haunts. So I went to DSW. As in the commercialised warehouse store of shoe consolidation. I have NEVER SEEN so many shoes in my life. And of so many varieties. Who KNEW that you could be in a place that sold 100 different kinds of black pumps, only to FAIL at finding what you need? What happened to the basic shoe - one for dress and one for fancy? Without the see-through wedge heal, the tiger print, the ankle wrap mary jane, the glitter sprinkled vamp, the pointy toed pumps that make your feet look twice as long as they are... what happened to the basic conservative patent leather with a medium heel? That you can actually WALK AROUND IN??? ARG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually, I exaggerate. I did find what I needed. A basic black pump by Liz Claiborne. Thank GOODNESS for Liz Claiborne! And another open toed one with a simple design with leather backing to wear to the black tie function on Saturday.

And I kid you not. The whole thing took more than an hour and a half!
Both pairs came in under $80. EIGHTY DOLLARS.
I don't remember when I last paid $80 for a pair, two pairs, of shoes!
I am definitely not one to buy cheap shoes. $80 would pay for the toe of one shoe alone in the places I typically shop.

All I know is these better not hurt my feet.

If they do, that is what I get for buying cheap shoes!!!

Oh, and we have a wedding to attend this weekend, too. The reception? A pizza party at the bride's grandparents' house. How cool is that!?

Can you please to to Zappos.com and buy your shoes online. They have loads of them and they are priced well. Otherwise, you're going to have to go shopping. Lord and Taylor was having a MASSIVE shoe sale last week. $29.99 for a LOVELY pair of shoes for me thank you! DSW...bah. Always a pain, but its there too
